GETTING A JOB

Lemon Tree.... the Perfect CV

We need to be able to get a clear picture of your work history, experience, education and achievements so here's a few pointers on how to help make your CV the one that grabs our interest and gets you that all important interview.

  • Keep it concise - ideally no more than 2-3 pages.
  • Keep it clear - use clear headings so that we can easily navigate our way through.
  • Keep it accurate - we're publishers so we're not crazy about spelling mistakes - always do a spell check.
  • Keep it presentable - use an easy to read font - steer clear of photographs and lots of colours.
  • Keep it true - don't exaggerate, be factual, include dates and don't leave gaps - if you spent six months doing voluntary work or climbing mountains we want to know about it.
  • Keep it ordered - list your most recent experience first.
  • Keep it relevant - tell us about your key skills and achievements in each role.
  • Keep it interesting - if you've done anything interesting that's not mentioned elsewhere - tell us about it - eg sports achievements, trekking in the Himalayas, any voluntary work.
  • Keep it easy - make sure we can contact you easily - always include your name, address, phone number and email address.

If you're applying for any of our roles in the Design department, always attach examples of your design work if requested to do so.

Finally, make sure that your covering email/letter explains clearly and concisely why you are a good match for the vacant post. Oh, and if we ask for salary expectations please make sure you include them.

Lemon Tree... the Perfect Interview

We can't promise that you'll have the perfect interview but we will always view an interview as an opportunity to sell the role and the company to you in the same way that you'll be selling your qualities and skills to us. In addition, here's some of the key points that we look for in job candidates.

We like you:

  • To be on time and prepared for the interview.
  • To do your homework on the company so that you know something about us - we always ask!
  • To have taken the trouble to look at our products.
  • To have thought carefully about the job you are applying for and how your skills match. We'll also ask you to give examples of how you achieved certain things, dealt with various situations etc - ie we'll ask competency-based interview questions as well as fact finding and setting editorial tests etc where appropriate.
  • To have thought about some relevant questions you might have about the company and the job.
  • To demonstrate interest and enthusiasm for the role.

In return we'll make sure that we give you the information you need to make up your mind about the job role and the company.
